The Attorney General Will Not Hold a Military Rank. The State National Security Committee Proposes Changes to the Law

The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) has presented a draft law containing amendments to the Law "On the Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic" and has submitted it for public discussion.

In the explanatory note, it is emphasized that the current legislative norms have contributed to the improper use of military insignia by civil servants performing their duties.

According to the new draft law, it is planned to abolish the following military ranks:

  • "General of Justice" (for the Attorney General);

  • "Lieutenant General of Justice" (for the First Deputy Attorney General);

  • "Major General of Justice" (for the Deputy Attorneys General, the Military Prosecutor, as well as the prosecutors of Bishkek and the regions: Batken, Jalal-Abad, Osh, and Chui).

Thus, the rank of "Major General of Justice" will be assigned exclusively to the Military Prosecutor, while his deputies and other employees of the military prosecutor's office will be given other ranks such as Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, and Captain of Justice. All other prosecutors, including the Attorney General, will be able to receive the rank of Counselor of Justice of various classes.

Previously, the SCNS also submitted for discussion amendments to the law "On the Establishment of Military Ranks, Class Ranks, Special Class Ranks, and Special Titles," which proposed to exclude references to military ranks in the Tax and Customs Services.
