The State Department clarified which visas the U.S. will stop issuing to Russians.
According to RBK, the U.S. State Department will suspend the issuance of immigration visas for citizens from Russia and 74 other countries.
In a statement on platform X, it is noted that "the State Department will stop processing immigration visas from 75 countries, whose migrants receive unacceptably high social benefits at the expense of Americans."
State Department representatives clarified that this measure will remain in effect until there is confidence that new migrants "will not burden the American budget."
Earlier, Fox News reported a complete suspension of visa issuance for citizens of these countries, but later clarified that this only pertains to immigration visas.
According to the information, the new rule will come into effect on January 21. The restrictions will apply not only to Russia but also to Iran, Iraq, Brazil, Egypt, Thailand, and several other countries.
In 2025, the U.S. State Department revoked over 100,000 visas for foreigners, including about 8,000 student visas. This number is more than double the number of visas revoked in 2024 during Joe Biden's presidency.
