The U.S. State Department will suspend the issuance of immigration visas for citizens of 75 countries, including Kyrgyzstan.

According to information from Fox News, the U.S. State Department will temporarily suspend the issuance of immigration visas for citizens of 75 countries. The decision is set to take effect on January 21 and will last for an indefinite period until the review of visa procedures is completed.

As reported by Fox News, this measure is due to the need to strengthen checks in the context of new requirements of U.S. immigration legislation regarding "public charge." This means that authorities will assess applicants for their potential burden on government resources and their ability to receive public benefits.

The criteria that will be considered during the checks include health, age, level of English proficiency, financial stability, and the likelihood of needing long-term medical care.

Additionally, State Department representative Tommy Pigott noted that the department will actively use its authority to deny visas to those potential immigrants who may pose a burden to the U.S. and abuse the generosity of the American people.

Among the countries whose citizens will have their visa issuance suspended is Kyrgyzstan. This decision may affect Kyrgyz citizens who were planning to immigrate to the U.S. through various programs, including family reunification. It is important to note that an immigration visa provides the opportunity for permanent residence in the U.S. with subsequent acquisition of permanent resident status (Green Card).
