The USA will suspend the issuance of immigration visas to citizens of 75 countries starting January 21.
Starting January 21, American embassies in 75 countries will begin rejecting applications for immigration visas. According to Fox News, this decision is based on a directive from the U.S. State Department.
According to information provided by Fox News, the U.S. administration has decided to temporarily halt the issuance of visas to citizens of countries such as Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Brazil, Thailand, Nigeria, Somalia, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, and others. This directive was announced on January 14 and applies to all American diplomatic missions.
The reason for this step, according to sources, is the State Department's desire to strengthen control over applicants. The document referenced by Fox News emphasizes that the new rule is aimed at preventing the receipt of social benefits and assistance by those who may become a burden on society.
Embassies in the specified countries will reject visa applications based on existing laws. At the same time, the State Department will review its immigration control procedures. The duration of this decision has not yet been specified.
Earlier, media reports indicated the White House's intentions not to issue immigration visas to foreigners with chronic illnesses such as obesity, cancer, or diabetes. The Donald Trump administration believes that such individuals may remain in the U.S. and seek social assistance or end up in specialized institutions. In November of last year, a decision was also made to suspend the consideration of all asylum applications.
