District officer detained on suspicion of extortion for "protection" of foreigners (photo, video)

In Osh, a police officer has been detained and charged with extortion from foreign citizens who do not have work permits. This was reported by the press service of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).

According to the information, on January 21 of this year, the GKNB, in cooperation with internal investigations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, detained the district inspector of GOM-3 of the Osh City Police Department, Lieutenant U. O. Sh., while he was receiving money.

He regularly extorted amounts ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 soms from foreign citizens, knowing that they lacked the necessary documents for work. In case of refusal, he threatened them with fines and possible deportation.

After his detention, the officer was sent to the temporary detention facility of the GKNB. Currently, efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals who may be involved in this crime, as well as to uncover facts of their illegal activities, as stated in the press release.
