An attempt to defend a woman led to a knife attack in Bishkek

As a result of the knife attack in Bishkek, a suspect has been detained, as reported by the press service of the Leninsky District Police Department. According to the police, on January 17, 2026, at about 7:05 AM, a signal was received at the Leninsky District Police Department from one of the hospitals regarding the hospitalization of a 29-year-old citizen, A.K., with a stab wound. An operational investigative group was dispatched to the scene.

Law enforcement officials found that A.K. sought medical assistance for a cut wound on his left shoulder.

During the investigation, it was established that the incident occurred near a café on Selsovetskaya Street. A.K. witnessed an unknown man beating his wife and decided to intervene to protect the woman. In response to his actions, the attacker got into a conflict with him and inflicted two knife wounds to his left shoulder, after which he fled the scene.

In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of hooliganism, according to paragraph 3 of part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Relevant examinations have been appointed.

Immediately after the incident, the suspect was identified and detained — a 22-year-old citizen, A.A. He was taken to the Investigative Service and placed in a temporary detention facility.

Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
