A criminal case has been opened regarding the fire at the nursing home in Bishkek

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the First May District reported the initiation of a criminal case in connection with the fire at a nursing home in Bishkek.

The investigation is being conducted under the article of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic concerning "Violations of fire safety rules." An examination on fire safety issues has been appointed as part of the case, and investigative actions are underway.

The incident occurred on January 6 at the nursing home on Abay Street. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, 15 people were evacuated from the building; however, unfortunately, two people died.

Four fire brigades and an operational headquarters were involved in extinguishing the fire, and the blaze was successfully localized.

According to updated information from the Bishkek City Hall, the fire broke out in the palliative care unit in an area of about 30 square meters. The main building of the institution remained intact.

High-ranking officials arrived at the scene, including Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov, and Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration Kanat Sagynbaev.

As a result of the fire, two palliative patients who were in critical condition died. Additionally, 11 people were hospitalized for observation due to possible carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to the city hall, fire safety drills were conducted at this institution in July 2025, and all requirements were met. The city head instructed to check all documentation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The Ministry of Health reported that 14 patients were taken to the Clinical Emergency Hospital: 13 of them with a diagnosis of "carbon monoxide poisoning" and one with first-degree burns. The condition of four victims is assessed as moderate, while two are in serious condition. Health Minister Kanaybek Dosmambetov has already visited the victims.
