The Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan visited the victims of the fire at the nursing home
The Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kanibek Dosmambetov, visited the Clinical Emergency Hospital in Bishkek to assess the condition of those injured in the fire that occurred at a nursing home.
Fourteen victims were admitted to the hospital: 13 people were diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning and one with first-degree burns. Four patients are in moderate condition, two are in serious condition, and eight are assessed as satisfactory. The severity of their condition is related to the presence of underlying health issues and the consequences of poisoning.
Kanibek Dosmambetov familiarized himself with the conditions of treatment and hospitalization of the victims and gave instructions to ensure the necessary medical assistance.
The fire occurred in the palliative care ward of the nursing home in Bishkek and covered an area of about 30 square meters.
Firefighters arrived at the scene within 9 minutes. Due to the nature of the facility, four fire engines and ambulance crews were called to extinguish the fire.
Also present at the scene were the Mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov, and Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration Kanat Sagynbaev.
As a result of the incident, two palliative care patients in serious condition died. Another 11 people were taken to medical facilities for observation for possible carbon monoxide poisoning.
It is worth noting that in July 2025, fire tactical exercises were conducted at the facility, and all fire safety regulations were followed.
The main building of the nursing home was not affected; the fire only impacted one room in the palliative care unit. Evacuation will be carried out if necessary.
The Mayor of the city, Aibek Junushaliev, instructed a review of all documentation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The causes of the fire will be determined based on the conclusions of the competent authorities.
As reported by Deputy Mayor Victoria Mozgacheva, the fire did not affect the nursing home itself; it occurred in the room of the independent palliative care unit. Currently, there are 220 service recipients in the facility, and they are safe, so the issue of evacuation is not on the table.
“There were 13 people (seriously ill) in the men's palliative care unit, of whom two died. The other 11 were evacuated to another unit, but later they were hospitalized to rule out risks of carbon monoxide poisoning. If their condition remains stable, they will be returned tomorrow,” noted Victoria Mozgacheva.
She also added that last year, fire safety drills were conducted at the facility in conjunction with the Ministry of Emergency Situations. “There were no remarks; all activities were completed. Currently, specialists are investigating what exactly happened in the room,” the deputy mayor indicated.
According to her information, a major renovation was carried out in 2025 in the three-story building of the nursing home.
