Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Turghunbek uulu announced his resignation
On February 12, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, announced his intention to resign from his position.
This statement was made during a parliamentary session, where he emphasized that he would continue to serve as a deputy.
“Political culture is important to us. I have decided to step down as Speaker of the Parliament voluntarily to avoid misunderstandings and rumors. No one has pressured me, and I will not allow that to happen. Kyrgyzstan needs stability, and the political reforms initiated by Sadyr Nurgozhoevich must be completed. I will remain a deputy,” Turgunbek uulu stated.
Turgunbek uulu has held the position of Speaker since 2022 and was re-elected in December 2025 after early elections.
Deputy Marlen Mamataliev has been nominated to replace him. This was reported by several sources from the parliament to Kaktus.media.
According to preliminary information, no other candidates are expected.
