OJSC "Electric Stations" continues work on the modernization of existing facilities and the construction of new ones until 2026, according to a statement from the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Modernization of the Uch-Kurgan HPP
The project for the upgrade of two hydro units at the Uch-Kurgan HPP is being carried out by CNEEC. It is reported that all work is proceeding according to the established schedule.Currently, dismantling work is being carried out on hydro unit No. 2, where the runner chamber and rotor components are being disassembled. Simultaneously, preparations for the dismantling of the turbine shaft and auxiliary equipment are underway on unit No. 1.
Work is also ongoing at the 10/0.4 kV switchgear. At the hydraulic structures, work has begun on the extraction of gates in the spillway structure (elevation 542.0 m) and the installation of a cutoff wall in the dam.
Reconstruction of the substation at the Kurpsai HPP
As part of the 2026 plan, the reconstruction of the 220/110 kV substation at the Kurpsai hydroelectric power station is planned, where new autotransformers with a capacity of 125,000 kVA have already been delivered.The project includes the replacement of old autotransformers (AT-1 and AT-2) with a capacity of 63,000 kVA with modern ones that have greater performance.
This modernization will significantly increase the reliability and capacity of the electrical network.Design work will soon be completed, after which construction and installation activities will begin. Once all stages are completed, the new equipment will be put into operation.

Project "Kambar-Ata HPP-1": current status
The Ministry of Energy refers to the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 as the project of the century. As part of the preparation for construction, work is being carried out on the laying of power lines, the construction of roads and a bridge over the Naryn River, as well as the creation of a town for builders and other necessary engineering activities.One of the key tasks for 2026 is the completion of the construction of the bridge over the Naryn River, which will provide access to the construction site of the HPP. Work continues regardless of winter conditions.
The bridge will serve as the main logistics route for the delivery of materials, equipment, and labor.
The technical parameters of the bridge:
- load capacity - up to 400 tons;
- length - about 200 m;
- width - 11 m.
"The structures were manufactured to special order and passed quality control. 24 specialists are working on the site. The installation of metal structures and infrastructure development is in an active phase," the agency reported.
The Kambar-Ata HPP-1 is one of the largest energy projects in the region, with a design capacity of about 1,860 MW.
The completion of the bridge construction, which will be ready by early July 2026, will allow for large-scale construction of the station to commence.
Kambar-Ata HPP-2: preparation for the launch of the second unit
Preparation for the launch of the second hydro unit at the Kambar-Ata HPP-2 is ongoing. Mobilization is underway as per the schedule, including the construction of temporary and permanent infrastructure facilities.Currently, contractors are building a residential camp for personnel with a kitchen. There is also construction of an office building (including interior finishing and electrical installation), living quarters for consultants (in the final stages), and a laboratory.
"At the same time, project and estimate documentation for the main technological facilities is being developed," the statement added. "These activities create the necessary infrastructure base for moving to the next stage of construction."
