The work on modernizing outdated hydro units continues in the Kyrgyz Republic as part of the program to increase electricity production, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.
The Uch-Kurgan HPP is in the spotlight, where preparations for the installation of new equipment are actively underway. Currently, 47.3% of the necessary equipment for hydro unit No. 2 has been delivered to the station's warehouse, and most of the main equipment is already available.

At the moment, active dismantling work is taking place at the station. During the disassembly of the turbine's working wheel chamber on hydro unit No. 2, preparations for the dismantling of the turbine shaft are simultaneously underway on hydro unit No. 1, along with the disassembly of auxiliary systems and 10.5 kV busbars. All dismantled elements are carefully transported to the warehouses.

A professional team of more than 80 specialists is involved in the modernization project of the hydro units.

We remind you that work at the Uch-Kurgan HPP began in 2024. Previously, hydro units No. 3 and No. 4 were successfully updated.

This year, in 2026, reconstruction is simultaneously taking place on units No. 1 and No. 2, with completion planned by the end of the year.

“After the modernization of the two hydro units, the station's capacity will increase from 198 MW to 216 MW, and the service life of the main equipment will be significantly extended, which will improve the reliability and efficiency of the hydroelectric power station's operation,” the ministry emphasized.
