
In 2025, the population growth rate of Uzbekistan continues to decline for the third consecutive year: in 2024, the increase was 2.2%, and last year it was 2%. Nevertheless, the republic retains its status as the most populous country in Central Asia and demonstrates high population growth rates.
There is also an increase in the urban population, which now stands at 50.9%, while the share of the rural population has decreased to 49.1%.
According to last year's data, 1.2 thousand people moved to Uzbekistan for permanent residence, while 10.1 thousand people left the country.
As of January 1, 2026, the population of the capital, Tashkent, reached 3,178.1 thousand people, making it the largest city in Central Asia.
