European countries issued a statement regarding the US claims on Greenland

European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Denmark, have published a joint statement regarding the US claims on Greenland.

The document emphasizes that "Greenland belongs to its people, and only Denmark and Greenland have the right to make decisions regarding these territories."

The statement also notes that security in the Arctic region should be ensured through cooperation and in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and respect for borders.

Amid the military operation in Venezuela, US President Donald Trump stated that the island has strategic importance for US national security. The next day, the wife of Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted an image on social media of a map of Greenland colored in the colors of the American flag, with the caption "Coming Soon."

In response, Danish Ambassador to Washington Jesper Møller Sørensen emphasized the importance of allied relations with the United States and the expectation of full respect for Denmark's territorial integrity. Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, commenting on the publication, called it a manifestation of disrespect but expressed confidence that there was no cause for concern.

According to information published by The Economist, the US intends to offer Greenland a free association agreement, which implies duty-free trade and the possibility for American military operations on the island's territory.

Former Prime Minister of Greenland Mute Egede expressed the opinion that the island is not for sale. However, Trump did not rule out the possibility of using military force to establish control over Greenland.

Greenland was a colony of Denmark until 1953 and continues to be part of the Danish Kingdom, but since 2009 has had the right to self-government and independent choice of domestic policy.
