In Kyrgyzstan, the population of snow leopards has exceeded 550 individuals. This was reported by Asel Raimkulova, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agrarian Policy, Ecology, and Environmental Protection. She also noted that the snow leopard has been officially recognized as the national symbol of the Kyrgyz Republic, and its logo and usage rules have been approved.

Asel Raimkulova added that a National Action Plan for the Conservation of the Snow Leopard has been developed until 2030. Within the framework of this plan, various activities are being implemented aimed at protecting the population of this rare animal and preserving its natural habitat.

In addition, work is underway to expand and improve the condition of specially protected natural areas, which currently cover approximately 792 thousand hectares.

One significant step has been the creation of an ecological corridor for the snow leopard, which connects the regions of Khan-Tengri, Sary-Chelek-Ertash, and Naryn. This corridor is designed to provide safe migration routes for the animals and support a sustainable population of snow leopards in the country.
