The idea is aimed at supporting the textile industry
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputies were introduced to a draft law proposing amendments to the existing laws "On the Protection and Use of Plant Life" and "On the Development of Agriculture".
This project was presented by the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev.
During the discussion, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev suggested the possibility of cultivating industrial cannabis for use in textile production.
"With this material, we can create fabrics, sew clothes, and also produce bags and other products. We already have sewing workshops, and such products are highly popular in Russia. It would be reasonable to establish the production of clothing from our own raw materials," he noted.
In response to a question about the implementation of this idea, Zhanibek Kerimaliev stated that legislative changes are required for this.
"The issue of cultivating industrial cannabis will be discussed separately. We will definitely return to this topic," he added.
