Workers appealed to the ombudsman
In the Talas region, an incident occurred where local builders working on the GIK house were fired and replaced by foreign workers. This fact was reported by the Ombudsman Institute of Kyrgyzstan.
According to information from the press service, 21 local residents submitted a collective statement to human rights defenders. They reported that they worked on the site from January 5 to 16, after which they were dismissed without explanation. In their place, about 60 foreign citizens were brought in for the construction.
The workers noted that labor contracts were not concluded with them; however, there was a record in the timekeeping journal, and there were photo and video materials confirming their labor activity.
The Ombudsman Institute sent official requests to several agencies, including the Labor Legislation Control and Supervision Service, the GIK, the regional prosecutor's office, and the president's representative in the Talas region.
In the response from the GIK, it was stated that this organization acts as the customer for the construction of mortgage houses, while the actual executor is the state enterprise "Kyrgyzstroyservice".
Representatives of the institute found out that the project was previously handled by another company that did not complete the work and exited the project. Subsequently, the site was handed over to a new contractor.
The current contractor confirmed their readiness to hire local residents if they meet the necessary qualifications and have work experience.
At the beginning of February, the applicants reported that they were re-employed and expressed gratitude to the ombudsman for protecting their labor rights.
