In the Talas region, 21 workers appealed to the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jamil Jamanaev, requesting protection of their labor rights, as reported by the press service of the Akýkatçy Institute.
The workers stated that from January 5 to January 16, they worked on the construction of a multi-story building funded by the State Mortgage Company. However, on January 16, they were unexpectedly suspended from work without any explanation, and about 60 workers from a neighboring country were brought in to replace them.
According to the applicants, labor contracts were not signed with them, but a timekeeping log was maintained, and there are photo and video recordings confirming their work activities. They sought support from the Akýkatçy to protect their rights and for re-employment.
The Akýkatçy Institute sent inquiries to the Labor, Social Security and Migration Ministry's Labor Legislation Control and Supervision Service, to the State Mortgage Company, as well as to the regional prosecutor's office and the Presidential Representative Office in Talas.
In the response from the State Mortgage Company, it was indicated that it is the client of the construction project, while the construction work is carried out by the state enterprise "Kyrgyzstroyservice." Additionally, it was revealed that the project was previously undertaken by another company, which exited the project, after which the obligations were transferred to a new contractor.
After the institute's appeal, the new contractor expressed readiness to employ local residents with the necessary qualifications and experience.
At the beginning of February, the applicants reported that they had been re-employed and expressed gratitude to the Akýkatçy for the assistance provided.
