The closure of the intersection of Young Guard Avenue and Leo Tolstoy Street will begin in two months and will last for almost a year. Currently, this area is experiencing significant traffic load, and traffic jams are a constant occurrence. As part of the project, a new transport interchange will be constructed here, which will become one of the first on the main streets of the capital. According to the city administration, the project is currently undergoing examination at the Ministry of Construction, and construction work will begin immediately after its completion.

Alternative Routes

At the moment, work is underway on Bakayev Street, which will become the main alternative for motorists. The road has been constructed under the railway tracks on the section from Leo Tolstoy Street to Bokonbaev Street. The next step is to continue work to Moscow Street with an exit to Beishenaliev Street.

It is planned to open traffic on Bakayev Street in about a month, and it is expected that it will quickly become one of the busiest roads in the city. As a second route for detours, Asanaliev Street (formerly Nekrasov Street) is proposed. In the future, the city administration intends to make these streets one-way: traffic on Bakayev Street will be only southbound, while on Asanaliev Street it will be only northbound.

In addition, the implementation of dedicated lanes for public transport will continue. They are planned to be organized on Abdrakhmanov, Tokombaev (the main road), and Jibek Jolu Avenue.

“During morning and evening rush hours, there is no difference in traffic between private cars and buses. Therefore, we need to create dedicated lanes, separated from the general flow of traffic,” noted Beishenbaev.

How long will it take to repair all the roads in Bishkek?

Data on the condition of Bishkek's road network raises concerns: out of 2,822.2 km of urban roads, 1,834 km need repairs, which is 65% of the total.

According to the city administration's forecasts, if the pace of repairs from recent years (2018–2023), during which 27–30 km were restored per year, is maintained, the complete restoration of roads will take about 80 years. This means that roads will deteriorate faster than they can be restored. However, transitioning to new rates (over 90 km in 2025) would reduce this period to 15 years. But such an intensity of work implies that the city will be in a state of constant construction and closed streets for the next ten years.
