Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva appealed to the authorities after a high-profile case of violence in the Bakai-Ata district.
The Ombudsman Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva called on state and law enforcement agencies to actively strengthen measures to combat domestic violence. She noted that the current actions are not yielding the expected results, and the problem of violence against women and girls remains critical.
The Ombudsman's appeal was a reaction to an incident that caused a wide resonance on social media. Information that a man doused his wife with gasoline and set her on fire spread quickly.
At the instruction of the Ombudsman, employees of the Ombudsman Institute contacted the mother of the victim. It was established that the tragic incident occurred on October 15, 2025, in the village of Boo-Terek, Bakai-Ata district, Talas region.
A 28-year-old woman, T.K.M., a mother of two daughters and married for about six years, became a victim of brutal violence from her husband, who returned home in a state of intoxication, started a scandal, and beat her. As a result, he threatened her, doused her with gasoline, and set her on fire.
The woman sustained serious burns covering about 60% of her body. Initially, she was hospitalized in a hospital in Talas, and three days later, she was transferred to Bishkek due to her severe condition. She spent a month in intensive care and continued treatment until December 18 in the burn unit of the City Clinical Emergency Hospital.
According to her mother, the husband's relatives took the woman back to Talas without notifying the family, distorting information about the incident and presenting it as an accident. Only recently, when her husband began to beat her again, was she able to tell the truth and seek help from her mother.
At the moment, the woman and her children are in Bishkek, where she requires further treatment and psychological support. A statement has been filed with the Lenin District Department of Internal Affairs in Bishkek, and the case materials have been forwarded to the Bakai-Ata District Department of Internal Affairs. The Prosecutor's Office of the Talas region has initiated an investigation.
The Ombudsman Institute expressed its readiness to provide the woman with the necessary legal and psychological assistance. Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a full and impartial investigation so that those responsible are held accountable. She emphasized that violence against women must not go unpunished.
