Jamila Dzhamanbaeva, the ombudsman, expressed concern about the insufficient effectiveness of state measures in combating domestic violence, noting that the situation regarding violence against women remains extremely serious.

This statement was made following a horrific incident that occurred on October 15, 2025, in the village of Boo-Terek, located in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region. According to the victim's mother, her 28-year-old daughter became a victim of her husband, who, while intoxicated, had a quarrel and began to beat her, threatening to kill her.

“He said he would kill her with an axe, went outside, and then returned with a canister of gasoline and doused my daughter. While he was looking for matches, she managed to hide her two children in another room, but she couldn't escape herself,” the victim's mother recounted.

When the man set the gasoline on fire, the woman ran outside in an attempt to extinguish the flames with water. Bystanders who heard her cries for help took her to the hospital. Three days after being hospitalized in Talas, the victim's condition worsened, and she was transferred to Bishkek. She spent a month in the intensive care unit and then continued treatment in the burn unit of the City Clinical Emergency Hospital until December 18.
According to her mother, the husband's relatives took the woman back to Talas without notifying her family and misled the doctors.
They claimed that the burns were accidentally sustained while igniting a stove with gasoline. However, the victim herself revealed the truth only recently when her husband came home drunk again and started beating her. At that moment, the woman called her mother asking her to take her away.

Currently, the victim and her two children are in Bishkek with her mother. The woman has burns covering about 60% of her body and requires further treatment and psychological support.

A statement has been filed with the Lenin District Department of Internal Affairs in Bishkek. As reported by the Talas Regional Prosecutor's Office, the case materials have been transferred to the Bakai-Ata District Department of Internal Affairs, and an investigation has already begun.

The ombudsman's office confirmed its readiness to provide the woman with legal and psychological assistance.
According to information from the Bakai-Ata District Department of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration, the 32-year-old husband of the victim works at the Talas city administration and also sustained minor burns.
The Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and swift investigation of this case to hold those responsible accountable and to demonstrate that violence against women will not go unpunished.
