The incident that attracted public attention occurred on October 15, 2025, in the village of Boo-Terek, located in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region. According to the mother of the victim, her 28-year-old daughter T.K.M. became a victim of violence from her husband, who returned home in a state of intoxication and started a scandal.
According to the mother's account, the son-in-law threatened to kill her daughter and then, after going out into the yard, returned with a canister of gasoline, dousing his wife with it. In search of matches, he left the woman in terror, and when she tried to extinguish the fire, the flames engulfed her. Neighbors, hearing cries for help, called an ambulance.
After three days in a local hospital, the woman was transferred to Bishkek due to severe burns. She spent a month in intensive care and underwent treatment in the burn unit of the city clinical emergency hospital until December 18.
Immediate relatives of the husband, without notifying the victim's family, took her back to Talas, misleading the doctors by claiming that the burns were the result of an accident while lighting a stove.
T.K.M. was only able to reveal the truth about what happened recently when her husband came home drunk again and began to beat her. At that moment, she called her mother and asked for help. Currently, the woman and her children are in Bishkek with her parents, and she requires psychological support and further treatment, as she sustained 60% burns on her body.
According to information from the Talas prosecutor's office, a report of the incident was forwarded to the Bakai-Ata police department, where an investigation has been initiated. The Akikatchy Institute is ready to provide assistance to the victim in both legal and psychological aspects.
It is worth noting that T.K.M.'s 32-year-old husband works in the Talas mayor's office and also sustained minor burns. While the woman was in the hospital, a family acquaintance took care of her children.
The ombudsman calls for a fair and impartial investigation of this case so that those responsible are held accountable under the law.
