In Batken region, a man was sentenced to 2 years for evading alimony

In Kyrgyzstan, only 2% of divorced parents regularly pay alimony

In the Batken region, a man was sentenced to two years in prison for evading alimony payments, the General Prosecutor's Office reported.

This decision was made by the Batken district court.

Since July 3, 2017, this citizen has been evading his obligations to pay alimony. As of September 1 of last year, his debt exceeded 501,000 soms.

Initially, in October 2025, the court decided to impose two years of probation supervision on the man. However, after the victim's side appealed the verdict, the court changed its decision and sent the debtor to prison for two years, taking him into custody in the courtroom.

It is worth noting that according to the Judicial Department, there are about 60,000 cases of alimony collection registered in Kyrgyzstan, but only 2% of divorced parents fulfill their payment obligations.
