In the Batken region, a man has been sentenced for failing to pay child support since 2017. The court issued a decision for a two-year imprisonment, according to information provided by the Enforcement Service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the data, on July 3, 2017, the Batken District Court ordered him to pay a quarter of all his income for the maintenance of his child until the child reaches adulthood. Despite numerous warnings from the enforcement officers, the man did not comply with this decision.

As of September 1, 2025, his child support arrears amounted to over 501,000 soms.

Initially, in October 2025, the court imposed two years of probation supervision. However, this decision was appealed by the victim's side.
After reviewing the appeal, on February 2, the Batken Regional Court overturned the first instance decision and sentenced the debtor to two years of imprisonment, taking him into custody right in the courtroom.
The Enforcement Service noted that evading child support obligations is a criminal offense.

According to information from the Judicial Department of Kyrgyzstan, there are about 60,000 child support cases registered in the country, with only about 2% of divorced parents regularly fulfilling their child support obligations.
