The Cabinet of Ministers plans to lower the groundwater level for the construction of new settlements
Funding for the concrete lining of part of the Big Chui Canal (BCC) will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
Deputy Minister Bakyt Torobaev clarified that the total cost of the project is 37 million euros.
Currently, negotiations are underway between the government and the EBRD, as well as the preparation of an agreement.
The ministry noted that losses of irrigation water during transportation along the BCC reach 50-55%. Concrete lining of the canal will help reduce these losses, prevent water filtration into the ground, and ensure its reliable supply to agricultural lands.
In addition, the official added that the concrete lining of the BCC will simplify the process of creating new settlements near existing ones.
