According to Torobaev, negotiations between the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) regarding the project aimed at reducing water losses in the Second Big Chui Canal (BChK) have been successfully completed. Work is underway to prepare the relevant financing agreement for the canal's concreting.
The total amount required for the project's implementation is 37 million euros. Currently, irrigation water losses during delivery through the BChK reach 50-55%. Concreting the canal will significantly reduce these losses and ensure a reliable water supply to irrigated agricultural lands.
Moreover, concreting will help prevent water from filtering into the ground and spreading through underground layers. This will create conditions for draining marshy areas at the lower part of the canal.
As a result, these lands can be used for agricultural production, the development of horticulture, as well as for the construction of new settlements near existing areas.
