The largest cattle market in northern Kyrgyzstan is being relocated — 10,000 people and 2,000 vehicles have arrived in Chym-Korgon
The head of the Chym-Korgon ayil okmotu, Almaz Dubanaev, reported that on January 25, about 10,000 people came to the market. “The livestock market is operational, all conditions for trade are created, and requirements are being met. We ensure safety and order: employees of the Kemin district internal affairs department carry out constant monitoring,” he noted.
According to him, about 10,000 people and 2,000 vehicles were present at the market simultaneously, which led to a shortage of parking spaces. “All relevant services are working to ensure safe and organized trading conditions,” Dubanaev added.
Earlier, in December 2025, Turmush reported on plans to relocate the livestock market in Tokmok to another area, where a multifunctional facility will be built instead.
The livestock market in Tokmok was one of the largest in the northern part of Kyrgyzstan, serving as an important place for trading various animals such as cows, sheep, and horses.
Inspections revealed that the current market does not meet the necessary sanitary, veterinary, and urban planning standards. Its location near highways and residential areas poses safety and sanitary threats.
In light of the above, it was decided to move the market to a safer location near the current site. The mayor indicated that this decision would improve conditions for both sellers and residents of the city.
The mayor also noted that the area of the old livestock market has significant potential for further development of the city, and in the future, attracting investors for new projects is planned.
The new project includes the creation of multifunctional buildings and business spaces that will be oriented towards technology and creative industries.
According to local authorities, all necessary conditions will be created at the new livestock market: modern infrastructure and compliance with sanitary standards.
Representatives of the Chui district state administration reported that the new market is planned to be built in the eastern part of the village of Vinogradnoe. However, exact data on the size of the plot and the timeline for the start of construction are not yet known, as the project is in the planning stage.
Traders engaged in livestock sales noted that the Tokmok market had one significant advantage — its proximity to other markets where products and goods could be purchased. “If the new market is located close enough to the road and meets the standards, we will get used to it. But we will have to travel to Tokmok for shopping after selling livestock,” they shared.
Turmush previously reported that starting January 1, 2026, the private livestock market in Tokmok will be closed. Inspections found that the market was operating on a commercial basis with charges for placing animals.
The market owners did not provide the necessary investments for the development and maintenance of the infrastructure.
The closure was a result of regular violations of veterinary and sanitary norms, as well as non-compliance with safety standards.
Despite repeated warnings, the owners did not take action to rectify the violations.
