Large-scale weapon inspections have begun in the Osh region following a series of incidents.
This information was announced by the press service of the Osh Regional Department of Internal Affairs.
Inspections have become more thorough following a series of incidents that occurred in the country. In particular, in response to cases involving threats with a firearm in Bishkek and a murder committed by a police officer against his partner, it was decided to conduct checks on all weapon owners throughout the republic.
These activities started on January 8 and will last until January 31.
Currently, weapons that are stored illegally are being confiscated. This category includes weapons without documentation, as well as those whose operational period has expired. Citizens suspected of committing crimes or using violence are also under scrutiny, as well as cases where owners are not in possession of their weapons, allowing others to use them. Conversations are held with such individuals, after which the weapons are confiscated. In some cases, individuals voluntarily surrender their weapons.
"The goal of this initiative is to ensure the safety of citizens and their families. If you have unregistered weapons or ammunition, we strongly urge you to report this to the police. Caution is never unnecessary," the department stated.
The police also noted that those who voluntarily surrender illegally stored weapons will not face legal consequences.
