The Return of Fish to Issyk-Kul. "I Haven't Seen This in 50 Years"
A local resident shared observations about the fry
The return of fish to Issyk-Kul delights local residents. One beachgoer noticed large schools of fry, which amazed him. According to him, he hadn't seen such a quantity of fish for 40–50 years, or perhaps even longer.
“Previously,” he recalls, “fish in Issyk-Kul were caught with large nets, and such phenomena could be observed. However, over time, all of this disappeared. Now I see this spectacle again. It is truly amazing and pleasant.”
He noted that this is just one beach, but similar schools of fry are found along the entire coastline of the lake. Local residents he spoke with also confirm that such a massive return of fish has not been observed for many decades.
As a gesture of gratitude, he expressed appreciation to President Sadyr Japarov for introducing a moratorium on fish catch, emphasizing that this decision allowed nature to recover.
