295 people with injuries due to icy conditions visited the emergency room in Bishkek
Among these cases, 227 were related to fractures, while 68 patients suffered from bruises and sprains. All individuals with fractures were given a plaster cast.
Medical professionals emphasize that the main source of injuries remains falls on slippery sidewalks, stairs, and road crossings. Citizens are strongly advised to be attentive and cautious when moving in icy conditions.
When moving on slippery surfaces, it is important to avoid rushing and sudden movements. It is recommended to look down at your feet and, if necessary, pause to assess the surrounding environment. When walking, knees should remain slightly bent, and the torso should lean forward. Keeping hands in pockets is dangerous as it hinders balance. Elderly individuals should use a cane with a rubber tip for better stability.
It is essential to stay away from the roadway and building walls, where icicles may form. Cross the road only at pedestrian crossings. Stairs require special caution: when descending, it is better to place your foot along the step, which can soften the impact of a fall.
Winter footwear should be comfortable and have soles with good traction. To improve grip, adhesive tape can be applied to the sole or it can be lightly sanded with sandpaper.
If a fall is unavoidable, it is recommended to curl up — squat down, tuck elbows to the sides, pull in your head, and tense your muscles. Avoid falling on your back or with your arms extended forward. If possible, rolling during a fall can help reduce the force of impact and the risk of serious injuries.
In case of injury, it is not advisable to self-treat and it is better to seek medical assistance immediately.
