Icy Conditions. Since the beginning of January, about 300 people have sought help at the capital's trauma center.
Of all cases, 227 patients sustained fractures, while 68 cases were related to bruises and sprains. All patients with fractures were provided with plaster casts.
Medical professionals emphasize that the main cause of injuries is falls on slippery sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian crossings. In this regard, they strongly advise citizens to exercise caution when moving in icy conditions.
Experts recommend not to rush and to avoid sudden movements on slippery surfaces. It is important to pay close attention to where you place your feet and, if necessary, to make stops to assess the situation. Walking should be done with slightly bent knees and leaning the torso forward. Keeping hands in pockets is dangerous, as it may reduce the chances of maintaining balance during a fall. Elderly people should use a cane with a rubber tip for greater confidence while moving.
It is also recommended to avoid being close to the roadway and along building walls, as icicles may form on roofs. When crossing the street, one should be particularly attentive and use only pedestrian crossings.
