From January 1 to January 19, 2026, the emergency room of the Sports Rehabilitation Center received 295 injured individuals, whose injuries occurred as a result of snowfall and the formation of ice. Doctors recorded 227 cases of fractures, as well as 68 cases of bruises and sprains. All patients with fractures received plaster casts.
Medical workers emphasize that the main cause of injuries remains falls on slippery sidewalks, stairs, and pedestrian crossings. They urge residents to exercise caution in icy conditions and to avoid rushing.
Specialists recommend moving slowly, paying careful attention to the surface underfoot, and taking breaks to assess the situation if necessary. It is advisable to keep the legs slightly bent and to lean the body slightly forward. Keeping hands in pockets is dangerous, as it reduces the chances of maintaining balance during a fall. Elderly citizens are advised to use canes with rubber tips.
Additionally, medical professionals remind everyone of the importance of staying away from the roadway and avoiding areas near buildings where icicles may fall. Crossing the street should only be done at pedestrian crossings and with maximum caution.
