Forecasts predict worsening weather conditions: snowfalls are possible, with heavy precipitation in some areas. Wet snow is expected to stick to trees and wires, and fog may also occur. Snow drifts will form on roads, and icy conditions are anticipated, while in the mountains, snow drifts will be present. Additionally, the wind will strengthen, reaching speeds of 15–20 m/s in some areas.
The Republican Center for Strengthening Health has offered several recommendations to prevent hypothermia and frostbite:
- Reduce the time spent outdoors.
- At the first signs of freezing, seek a warm place immediately, such as a store or café.
- Do not go outside hungry or tired, especially in freezing weather.
- Be sure to eat hot food and drink hot tea with lemon or honey half an hour before going out.
- Avoid smoking in the cold, as it can lead to blood vessel spasms and reduced blood flow to the extremities.
- Do not consume alcohol, as it creates a false sense of warmth while actually accelerating heat loss from the body.
Wearing the right clothing before going outside is also crucial:
- Wear seasonal footwear that should not be tight and must have warm insoles and a high sole.
- Prefer mittens over gloves, choosing models made of windproof fabric with a fur lining.
- Protect your cheeks and chin with a scarf.
- A headwear is mandatory for everyone, including children.
- In cold and windy weather, exposed areas of skin should be smeared with protective cream, but not moisturizing cream.
- Dress in layers, but choose loose clothing to ensure normal blood circulation; outerwear should be waterproof.
