Storm Warning: Intense Precipitation, Icing, and Wind Strengthening in Kyrgyzstan on January 16-17
Fog may occur in certain regions. Snow drifts and icy conditions will form on the roads, and snow drifts are possible in mountainous areas. It is expected that the western wind will strengthen to 15-20 m/s.
From January 17 to 19, the air temperature will drop significantly: in the Chui and Talas valleys at night down to -9…-14°C, during the day down to -1…-6°C; in the valley zone of the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions at night down to -2…-7°C, during the day down to -2…+3°C; in the foothills at night the temperature will be -11…-16°C, and during the day -2…-7°C; in the Issyk-Kul basin at night -7…-12°C, during the day -4…+1°C; in the Naryn region and mountainous areas at night -23…-28°C, and during the day -9…-14°C; in high-altitude areas at night -26…-31°C, during the day -9…-14°C; in the Suusamyr valley, night temperatures are expected to reach -30…-35°C and daytime temperatures up to -11…-16°C.
Such weather conditions may create difficulties for the operation of utility and energy services, as well as communication enterprises. In case of heavy precipitation, visibility on the roads will deteriorate, making it difficult for vehicles to move.
Due to the expected precipitation from January 16 to 18, 2026, there is a possibility of snow avalanches, snow drifts, and icy conditions in the mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan, as well as on the following roads:
- Bishkek—Osh (121-138 km);
- Ala-Buka—Kanysh-Kiya (68-74 km, 86-101 km);
- Krasnaya Gorka—Ak-Tash (0-3 km);
- Myrza-Ake—Kara-Kulja—Alayku (65-110 km);
- Karakol—Enilchek (45-90 km);
- Balikchy—Kazar-man—Jalal-Abad (326-349 km).
When passing through avalanche-prone sections of the roads, it is necessary to maintain a distance of at least 500 meters between vehicles.
