Today, the Bishkek City Court continued the judicial proceedings in the case related to Kempiir-Abad. Among the defendants are 22 activists, a politician, and a journalist, some of whom are still under house arrest.

After the completion of the debates and the speeches of the defendants, the court retired for deliberation. As expected, the decision was made in favor of upholding the verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court.
Thus, all the accused were found not guilty.

Among the participants in the case are Mambetjunus Abylov, Aidanbek Akmatov, Nurlan Asanbekov, and others, including Erlan Bekchoro uulu and Asiya Sasykbaeva. The full list includes 22 names, including Shabdan Ali.

The case began in the fall of 2022, when disputes arose over the agreement with Uzbekistan regarding the delimitation of the border, which caused a wide public outcry. Activists protesting against the conditions concerning the Kempiir-Abad reservoir became the target of detentions.

Initially, they were charged with organizing mass riots, and later — with attempting to seize power by force. The defense repeatedly pointed out that access to some case materials was restricted.

In June, the first-instance court acquitted all the defendants; however, the prosecution challenged this decision. The appellate court upheld the acquittal, thereby effectively concluding this case.
