The composition of the temporary body has been established in the country, which has been granted the powers of the Supreme Leader until official elections for a new leader take place. According to the ISNA agency, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has taken a key position in this council as a legal expert.
According to Iranian laws, until a new spiritual leader is elected, the management of the country is transferred to a special commission. In addition to the 67-year-old Arafi, the commission includes President Masoud Pezeshkian and the head of the judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei. The decision to appoint Ayatollah Arafi to this temporary body was approved by the Council for the Determination of Political Expediency.
Alireza Arafi, known as a confidant of Ali Khamenei and one of the most influential Shia leaders, will jointly perform the duties of the Supreme Leader with his colleagues. This transitional period is expected to last until the Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 theologians, selects a permanent candidate for the highest position.
At the same time, alongside political changes, there have also been shifts in military leadership: Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has become the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
