Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov has been approved as the chairman of the GKNB of the Kyrgyz Republic by the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. This appointment is the result of an initiative by the president, who will formalize it with a decree in the near future. However, the approval process was accompanied by criticism from deputies who expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the special services.
Deputies urged Shabdanbekov to reconsider the GKNB's approach to interacting with businesses. Ismanali Joroev pointed out a scheme used by some employees who employed private auditors to exert pressure on entrepreneurs. These auditors, providing only advisory conclusions, became tools for threats and coercive seizure of funds, known as "kusturization." Joroev noted that some of these operatives are already detained for exceeding their authority.
Dastan Bekeshev asked Shabdanbekov about the upcoming reforms and his readiness to hold an open press conference. He also drew attention to dubious employees nicknamed Vaseline and Lizard, raising the question of whether the criminal cases they initiated and handled would be reviewed, given that they are now being held accountable for their violations.
Other deputies also emphasized the importance of ending the practice where the GKNB replaces tax and audit authorities. They demanded the cleansing of the agency from those who discredit the civil service.
