Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov was appointed acting chairman of the GKNB by President Sadyr Japarov on February 10. Today, his candidacy was officially presented for consideration by the relevant committee.
Shabdanbekov, who is 55 years old, was born on September 22, 1970, in the Naryn region.
He began his career in the national security agencies as an operational officer. According to veterans of the special services, he has a specialized education in intelligence, as well as a higher economic education obtained from the economic faculty of KGNU.
In 2005, he transferred to the 9th service, which at that time functioned as the State Guard Service, and headed the information and analytical work department. This unit was responsible for collecting and analyzing operational information to prevent terrorist and extremist threats against high-ranking officials and state facilities.
Since October 2020, Jumgalbek Shabdanbekov has held the position of deputy chairman of the GKNB while also leading the 9th service, which is responsible for the protection of the president, the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, the chairpersons of the Supreme and Constitutional Courts, as well as former presidents and key state facilities.
After 2021, he accompanied the president on most foreign trips.
In 2022, he was awarded the military rank of Major General.
