Members of Parliament Urge Support for Authorities in Driver Training Reform
Marlen Mamataliyev, one of the deputies, emphasized that for the successful implementation of the reform, it is necessary to provide the executive branch with the opportunity to complete the initiated changes. He reminded that President Sadyr Japarov heads the executive branch and urged his colleagues not to rush to conclusions.
The parliamentarian also noted that the issue of the ten-month training period for drivers can be discussed and changed, but it should not be used as a reason for political conflicts.
“Let’s trust the process and evaluate the final result,” he added.
Support for the reform was also expressed by Ulukbek Uzakbaev, who noted that the new requirements for driver training are justified by the high accident rate on the roads. He reminded that in 2025, around 900 people died as a result of traffic accidents, of which 99 were children.
Uzakbaev also pointed out that the reform will be conducted in a pilot mode until August 30, and final decisions will be made based on its results. He called for a temporary halt to public disputes and to allow the state to work.
In January of this year, the authorities approved a new procedure for driver training and the issuance of driver's licenses. Training must be conducted only in state driving schools, and the changes will be in pilot mode until August 30.
Private driving schools suspended their activities after access to the unified database was closed. It later became known that criminal cases were initiated against the owners of two private institutions.
On January 30, the president signed a decree suspending the licenses of private driving schools until August 2026. The authorities stated that the reform aims to combat corruption in the process of issuing driver's licenses and to reduce the number of traffic accidents.
