In Kyrgyzstan, average speed control is being introduced on the roads: the Ministry of Internal Affairs explains why
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktobyr Urmambetov reported that a new system is currently being tested on a section of the Bishkek—Tokmok highway.
According to him, 7,406 cases of speeding have already been recorded. However, the official did not specify the period during which these violations were identified.
Urmambetov explained that the main goal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to assess the effectiveness of the new mechanism, which focuses not only on momentary speeding near cameras but also on compliance with speed limits throughout the entire control section. In his opinion, this should lead to a reduction in the number of accidents and the preservation of human lives.
Deputy Abdyldabek Egemberdiev expressed interest in the effectiveness of this average speed control.
In response, Urmambetov added that there is a transition from the "Safe City" project to a more ambitious "Safe Country" project, which includes the expansion of the control system on roads, including the new average speed control mechanism.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this measure is extremely important, as about 70% of road traffic accidents occur due to speeding.
