The number of snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan has exceeded 550 individuals – Ministry of Natural Resources

As part of efforts to protect the snow leopard in Kyrgyzstan by 2030, a special action plan has been developed. Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Asel Rayymkulova announced this at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee.

She also emphasized that, thanks to the implemented measures, the population of snow leopards in the country has reached over 550 individuals.

According to her, to improve the condition of protected natural areas, a snow leopard corridor has been created, covering an area of 792,000 hectares, which connects Khan-Tengri, Sary-Chelek - Ertash, and the Naryn region. This corridor also includes the reserves "Baibosun," "Kotormo," and the botanical garden of the Academy of Sciences, making them part of specially protected areas,” she added.
