Did not pay alimony and ended up in prison: a resident of Jalal-Abad was sentenced to two years

The regional court changed the measure of punishment, replacing probation with actual imprisonment

According to information from the bailiff service of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic, the court made an important decision regarding citizen T.Sh.A., who had not fulfilled his alimony obligations since 2018. He was detained right in the courtroom.

As of March 2025, his debt amounted to 700,000 soms. Initially, the first-instance court imposed probation supervision; however, on February 26, 2026, the Jalal-Abad regional court reviewed this decision.

The judicial panel concluded that the initial punishment was too lenient and sentenced the debtor to two years of imprisonment.

The bailiff service emphasizes that persistent evasion of parental responsibilities may lead to criminal liability.
