Employees of the rehabilitation center in Bishkek accused of abusing patients
In Bishkek, employees of the private medical-psychiatric institution "Path to Life" are under investigation for suspected abuse of patients undergoing rehabilitation for addictions. The press service of the State National Security Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic (GKNB KR) reported that eight individuals have been detained in connection with this case.

Investigative actions revealed serious violations of Kyrgyzstan's legislation in the center's operations. Most employees, lacking the necessary medical education and licenses, applied so-called pseudo-psychiatric procedures at the direction of management. During acute psychological crises, patients were subjected to cruel methods of influence that humiliated their dignity and led to serious injuries.

The agency clarifies that physical force and various devices were used for "subduing," such as beds with restraining straps, batons, stun guns, and gags. As a result, patients experienced both physical and severe psychological trauma. "Disobedient" patients were placed in isolation cells, where they could remain without access to toilets and personal hygiene, sometimes for up to eight days.

The investigation suggests that the illegal actions of the center brought significant income to its owners: the cost of rehabilitation for one patient was about 80,000 soms per month. Meanwhile, the relatives of the patients were not informed about the cruel and unlawful methods used in the institution.

GKNB KR noted that the center lacked necessary measures to separate patients with infectious and venereal diseases, such as HIV and tuberculosis, which exposed all patients to the risk of infection. Physical evidence has been collected indicating the involvement of medical workers in illegal activities.
