In southern Spain, two high-speed trains derailed, resulting in the deaths of more than 20 people
The incident occurred in Adamuz, located in the province of Córdoba. Initially, a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed and entered the opposite tracks, where it collided with another train that had also derailed.
Passengers described the force of the collision as comparable to an "earthquake," media reports say.
According to preliminary data, there could have been up to 400 people on both trains. As a result of the incident, train services in the area have been temporarily suspended.
"The information coming in at the moment is very alarming," noted Spain's Minister of Transport Oscar Puente on the social network X.
Rescue services continue to work on extracting passengers who have become trapped inside the carriages.
