In Thailand, a construction crane collapsed onto a passenger train, killing at least 22 people
The incident occurred on January 14 in the Sikhiu area of Nakhon Ratchasima Province (Korat), located in northeastern Thailand, according to local authorities.
Preliminary data indicates that a crane involved in the construction of a high-speed railway line fell at the moment when a train was traveling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani Province. The crane's cable caught on the locomotive, causing the train to derail. As a result of the incident, the second and third cars of the train were damaged.
There were about 190 passengers on the train, some of whom were trapped in the damaged cars. Rescue services conducted the evacuation of the injured, including a child who received the necessary medical assistance.
Witnesses of the incident reported that they heard a loud noise before the crane fell, after which the train suddenly braked and derailed.
According to the Bangkok Post, this railway bridge is being constructed as part of the Thai-Chinese high-speed railway project, which will connect Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima.
