Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic: The slowdown in the growth rate of the services sector in January-February is due to a decrease in the dynamics of wholesale trade
The services sector continues to hold a key position in the structure of Kyrgyzstan's economy, accounting for almost 50% of GDP and making a significant contribution to economic growth – 3.64 percentage points with a real growth rate of 107.1%. However, in January-February 2026, a slowdown in growth is observed, caused by a decrease in activity in wholesale trade, which, along with retail trade, car and motorcycle repairs, accounts for about 30%. The decline in activity is associated with seasonal factors, as there is a decrease in business activity and trading operations at the beginning of the year following peak demand in December.
Nevertheless, compared to January-February 2025, the volumes of wholesale and retail trade, as well as services for car and motorcycle repairs, increased by 13.2%, mainly due to growth in retail (14.3%) and wholesale (9.1%) trade.
The volume of transport services and cargo storage amounted to 21.9 billion soms, which is 3.7% more than in the same period of 2025, thanks to an 18.4% increase in postal and courier services.
Hotel and restaurant services also showed growth of 13.2%, totaling 7.7 billion soms. At the same time, the gross volume of services in the field of information and communication increased by 8.2% compared to the same period in 2025.
Record from the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic: The slowdown in the growth rate of services at the beginning of 2026 is related to the deceleration of wholesale trade, first appeared in K-News.
