The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme, announced the launch of a new project aimed at creating a climate-resilient value chain in agriculture.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the initiative is funded by the Government of Japan, and the official signing ceremony took place at the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University as part of the "AgroDialogue – 2026" forum. The event was attended by figures such as Minister Bakyt Torobaev, the Ambassador of Japan to Kyrgyzstan Ryuichi Hirano, the Country Director of the UN WFP in the republic Kojiro Nakai, and the representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Kotaro Nishigata.

During his speech, Torobaev noted that agriculture faces serious challenges related to climate change, water resource shortages, and limited access to modern agricultural technologies. He emphasized: "This initiative aligns with our national priorities to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen cooperatives. It will help increase farmers' resilience."

The total funding allocated by Japan amounts to 4.5 million dollars, and this project will assist 17,000 small farmers in the Batken, Jalal-Abad, and Osh regions.
The project aims to improve food security, enhance nutrition levels, and increase incomes among the population in regions most affected by climate change. Special attention will be given to empowering women farmers through the establishment of self-help groups and agricultural cooperatives.

As part of this initiative, farmers will be provided with the following resources:

Additionally, the project includes educational programs on climate-adapted agricultural methods, post-harvest processing, cooperative management, and financial planning.
The implementation of this project is expected to enhance the productivity of the agricultural sector, strengthen market ties in mountainous regions, and ensure sustainable management of water and land resources.
