In collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry has launched a new project aimed at developing climate-resilient value chains. This information was announced by the ministry's press service.

As part of this project, the government of Japan has allocated $4.5 million. It is expected to reach about 17,000 small farmers operating in three southern regions of the country: Batken, Jalal-Abad, and Osh.

These areas were chosen due to their high vulnerability to climate change and lack of water resources.

Key Areas of the Project

The project will focus on increasing productivity and supporting agricultural cooperatives. As part of the initiative, rural producers will receive the necessary resources for successful operations.

The project will be implemented with technical support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Mirbek Duyshiev noted that this partnership will allow for a united effort in supporting small farmers, which aligns with the national priorities of the agricultural sector until 2030.

Japanese Ambassador Hirano Ryuichi emphasized that the implementation of the project will contribute to strengthening the country's food security and ensuring economic stability in rural areas amid climate change.

Japan continues to be a strategic partner of the UN WFP in Kyrgyzstan, providing assistance and supporting projects aimed at developing human capital in the republic.
