The police of the Bakai-Ata district are conducting an investigation into the serious harm caused to a woman. She was delivered to the intensive care unit with burns.

Currently, the woman is undergoing treatment at a medical facility in the city of Bishkek.

As reported by Turmush, the incident occurred about three months ago in the village of Boo-Terek in the Bakai-Ata district. This village belongs to the rural district of Kümüştak [Kumushtak].

According to local authorities, the family lived together with the husband's relatives. The daughter-in-law, T. kyzy M., born in 1998, and her husband, J. uulu D., born in 1994, have two daughters. The case was registered approximately three months ago.

When representatives of the village council arrived at the scene, the daughter-in-law and the children were no longer at home—they had been taken to the hospital. Neighbors and employees of the district internal affairs department were present at the scene.

At that time, witnesses reported that during the attempt to light the stove, gasoline was sprayed instead of diesel fuel, and allegedly it got on the daughter-in-law, after which she caught fire. The two children were taken by the village council representatives to the home of their father’s older brother.

At the time of the incident, according to some reports, the parents of J. uulu D. were not at home; they were attending a celebration. The village council then provided financial assistance to the family—10,000 soms were allocated for treatment.

The press service of the Talas regional internal affairs department confirmed the information about the ongoing investigation. On February 5, 2026, a citizen M.T., born in 1998, filed a statement with the Lenin District Internal Affairs Department in Bishkek. In her statement, she indicated that on October 15, 2025, at their home in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region, her husband D.J., born in 1994, without any reason, started a quarrel, kicked her out of the house, poured flammable liquid over her, and set her on fire. As a result, M.T. sustained serious bodily harm and, according to her, concealed the incident for a long time and did not inform anyone.

According to the Talas regional internal affairs department, on October 15, 2025, information was received from the district police officer about a fire in one of the residential houses. The report was registered in the unified register of incidents.

During the initial investigation, witnesses were interviewed, who explained that during the attempt to light the stove, the fire did not ignite, after which gasoline was sprayed, and at that moment, ignition occurred, resulting in burns for both spouses. At that time, M.T. and D.J. were taken to the intensive care unit, but due to their severe condition, they could not be interrogated.

After that, the victim did not inform relatives or law enforcement about the fact of domestic violence. A forensic medical examination was appointed for the spouses in the case.

Furthermore, on February 5, 2026, M.T. filed a new statement, stating that the incident was a result of domestic violence and that her husband intentionally poured flammable liquid on her and set her on fire. Additional verification measures have been initiated based on the newly discovered circumstances.

A criminal case has been initiated on this fact under Article 130, Part 2, Clause 1 ("Causing serious harm to health") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The suspect D.J. has been placed in a temporary detention facility.

Currently, investigative actions are being conducted.
