Ministry of Energy: Large-scale work on the modernization of power grids will be carried out in the Issyk-Kul region

In 2026, a comprehensive program for the modernization of electrical networks will begin in the Issyk-Kul region, which will ensure stable and reliable electricity supply for the population. According to the Ministry of Energy, these measures will contribute to strengthening the energy security of the region and creating comfortable conditions for users.

As part of this program, 50 kilometers of old wires will be replaced with modern SIP wires, which are more resistant to adverse weather conditions. This upgrade will reduce technical losses of electricity and prevent emergency outages.

Additionally, a complete upgrade of the 110 kV overhead power line connecting Tamga and Przhevalsk, with a length of 80 kilometers, is planned. This line plays a key role in supplying electricity to the Jeti-Oguz and Ak-Suu districts, as well as the city of Karakol. The implementation of this project will ensure reliable electricity supply for residents and social institutions.

As part of the digitalization of the energy sector, in 2026, all consumers in the Issyk-Kul region will receive smart meters that will allow for more accurate monitoring of electricity consumption, controlling expenses, and minimizing excessive consumption.

Additionally, the modernization of the Przhevalsk substation is planned: the 25 MVA transformer will be replaced with a more powerful 40 MVA transformer, which will increase the overall capacity of the substation.

These changes are aimed at meeting the growing electricity needs and creating a reliable foundation for the further development of the region.

As part of the modernization program, 5 new reclosers—automatic circuit breakers that protect electrical lines with voltages of 6–35 kV from emergency currents and restore electricity supply during temporary failures—will also be installed.

Furthermore, the installation of 14 transformer substations with voltages of 6–10/0.4 kV is planned in the region.

All planned activities are aimed at ensuring stable, safe, and quality electricity supply for the residents of the Issyk-Kul region.

The upgrade of electrical networks will be an important factor in the socio-economic development of the region and improving the quality of life of the population, as noted by the Ministry of Energy.
