Currently, the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Station, a branch of OJSC "Electric Stations," is undergoing modernization of two hydro units, as reported by the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.
At present, the dismantling of the second hydro unit is 90% complete. Work has also begun on the dismantling of the first unit. Specialists are preparing for the complete removal of outdated equipment to install a new, modern hydro unit.
The Uch-Kurgan HPP consists of four hydro units, each with an initial capacity of about 45 MW, producing over 800 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. After the reconstruction is completed, the capacity of the hydro units will increase from 180 MW to 216 MW, allowing for the production of over 984 million kilowatt-hours per year. This will have a significant impact on strengthening the energy security of Kyrgyzstan, notes the Ministry of Energy. The reconstructed hydro units are planned to be put into operation by the end of 2026.

For reference: The Uch-Kurgan HPP is one of the oldest and strategically important hydroelectric power stations in the country, located on the Naryn River and commissioned in 1962. The station has been supplying electricity to the southern region of the country for over 60 years. The old equipment was used twice as long as expected—30-35 years. After many years of major reconstruction, the units became outdated. The modern modernization gives the station a "second life," enhancing its reliability, safety, and efficiency.
